Preface

A secret baby grows up to wreak havoc on the galaxy trying to reconcile her parents’ marriage, not realizing the terrible sacrifice it will require of her.

TITLE IMAGE

The title image was cropped from ‘Cupid & Psyche’ by Francois Gerard, and is out of focus for metaphoric reasons.  ‘Cupid & Psyche’ is a Public Domain image.

CONTROVERSIAL CONTENT

To borrow from the movie rating system, The Star Captains’ Daughter is Rated PG.  Love scenes are not described, but take place behind closed doors and between committed couples over the age of consent.  There are interracial couples and one lesbian couple among the secondary characters.  Violence is mostly action and very little blood.  The religious beliefs and political interactions contain no authorial comment on real life religion or politics.  Any resemblance to real life or fictional characters is unintentional and coincidental.

GENRE

I consider this novel to be Young Adult Science Fiction.  However, I’ve been told it involves the parents too much to qualify as such for regular publication.  See explanation in the Comment section below, #20.

DEDICATION

This novel is dedicated to my daughter, the desire for whom inspired it, and to my husband, her Dad, who restored my faith in fairytales.

  1. I planned to begin regular posting of chapters today, October 20, 2008. However, a matter came up in Queryland which must take priority. Regular posting will begin October 27th instead. After that, a new chapter will be added every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday until the novel is complete.

    Unless I chicken out.

I must receive comments on each new chapter or I will think my blog stats are due to random Google searches and no one is actually reading. I will delete this blog if I receive no comments.

    Thanks for popping in!

  2. Best of luck with this adventure, and may you have many happy readers!

  3. Thanks, Heather! I can only wait and see how it goes.

  7. Chapter Three has been posted. In retrospect, it could have been broken into two chapters. Think of this as ‘Two for the Price of One’ Day. Oh, wait, this is already a FREE serial novel. Strike that. Okay, here’s the link, as if you didn’t have enough already-

  17. I’d like to tell you that the SNAP popup on your links makes them hard to click, particularly those small chapter links.

  18. Thanks, Christine! This is my first wordpress blog. I’ll see if I can fix it. I hope so. They annoy me too.

Blogger and WordPress each have their strengths and weaknesses.

  19. Yeah, I figured out how to disable pop-ups!

  20. GENRE
If it’s not my grammar which stinks and if my storytelling ability isn’t to blame, I believe THE STAR CAPTAINS’ DAUGHTER never achieved publication because it doesn’t fit in anywhere.

I consider this novel Young Adult Science Fiction. However, the parents are fully involved in the story and each have their own Point-of-View scenes. They also love each other romantically and it’s not believed teens want to read about parents who actually love each other. Of course, I don’t believe that. For a time, I tried to make this the parents’ story, qualifying it as Science Fiction Romance. But…(sigh)…involving the couple’s teenage daughter in the story was not acceptable either. The Star Captains AND their Daughter must be fully involved characters or there is no story. In the end, I decided to call this Young Adult Science Fiction because it is Junior’s Story, first and foremost. She’s the one who drives it and without her the parents are nothing. Only she knows Ariez’s true nature and only she is capable of concluding the story for everyone.
